I finally got my last dejection, I mean rejection, email last night. I still haven't heard back from Penn State, but since they haven't even interviewed me, I'm not holding my breath. I was heartbroken for all of about 4 hours last night. I started to cheer up at crossfit this morning. Nothing like a good butt kicking to make yourself feel better. Plus I got to talk with one of the ER docs and he's already promising a stellar letter of recommendation. A small step in the right direction also makes a big difference. I'm still not exactly skipping, but at least now I'm seeing the good sides, such as:

Getting a year off from school before I give up what remains of my social life.
Having time to be a raft guide again this summer.
Not being a complete basket case for at least three months (until the process starts all over again).
At least knowing and being able to make decisions about my life.

The one MAJOR downside to not getting into CU is that I have to undergo the whole application process again, in which I shell out a few more thousand dollar, write a million essays baring my soul to complete strangers for judgement, and have to deal with the stress for months. At least CU offers something that no other medical school does. I get to schedule an appointment to find out the weaknesses in my application. That way I can improve on the areas they find lacking. I don't know why more schools don't offer this feedback, but I'm glad I have it available.

The next step: figure out what to do with the next year of my life. And, yes, Brownie, I know that Baby Dolls is hiring. :P Real input would be more helpful.TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-794102343462262622010-03-05T14:07:00.001-07:002010-03-05T14:08:29.553-07:00King Chef...... for breakfast makes for a happy day. I've been too damn busy living my life to spend much time writing about it. Here's a quick recap on the major items:

The Medical School Process:
Applying to medical school is excruciating and time-consuming. But I've survived thus far.
My interview in Denver went well, but I won't hear back until Mar 31.
The schools I'm still waiting to hear from are not likely to give me an interview at this point. Oh, well.
Of course, I'm ready to travel if they contact me.

CrossFit:
Loving it.
Level 1 certified as of Aug 23, 2009.
I did 150 pull-ups as part of my workout on Saturday and did not tear my hands open. :)
I've set a slew of new PRs in the past few weeks.
Love Paleo cooking. See susanoutdoors.blogspot.com for my recipes!
I want to buy a garage gym setup so that I can do the WODs out of my house when I'm in medical school and don't have time to drive to a gym. I will not give up my workouts.

School:
Three classes this semester: Bacteriology, Biomechanics, and Physical Chemistry lab.
I'm only in class Tuesday & Thursday, so I have more days off to work at the hospital.
I will graduate May 21 summa cum laude with a B.S. in Human Biology, a B.A. in Chemistry, and a Theatre Minor.

Work:
I quit my job dancing at the Caspian at the end of November.
I'm not teaching dance classes on campus this semester, either.
Working as a Scribe in the Emergency Department absolutely rocks. I learn tons with every shift.
Coolest thing I've seen at work: a completely occluded abdominal aorta. I didn't even know that was possible with a conscious patient.

Health:
Since I've started eating Paleo again, my RA flare ups have gone down. I love this.
Yes, that means I've given up beer again. :(
Coffee on an empty stomach makes my hands shake, but so does an excruciating CrossFit workout.
I've started a separate blog for my Paleo cooking and CrossFit workout posts. Posting my recipes helps keep me focused and motivated. Plus, I get my ideas from random websites just like the one I started. Maybe I can help someone else, too.TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-63578435724378347512009-09-21T20:12:00.001-07:002009-09-21T20:13:13.221-07:00Owie. I broke my abs.Somehow between crossfit and belly dancing and drinking way too much tequila this weekend, my abs hurt so much that by Sunday I literally could not hold my shoulders upright. I spent all day curled up on the couch unable to do anything. It was ridiculous.TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-35082966276156606192009-09-18T20:31:00.000-07:002009-09-18T20:32:09.792-07:00Tequila.Drink some.TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-40027768991286413662009-09-14T12:51:00.001-07:002009-09-14T12:52:39.867-07:00Sunshine!Forgetting my notebook at Pikes Perk last night gave me an excellent excuse to take a break from my homework and get out in that gorgeous sunshine. I rode my cruiser down, picked up my notebook, and took my time coming home. I feel much better. :)TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-50489494605603546552009-09-13T19:44:00.002-07:002009-09-13T19:55:10.758-07:00BollywoodLearning not only new dances, but a whole new style of dance. Bollywood is so much fun! Marina is an amazing dancer and such a blast to learn from. Saturday I'm going to the parade downtown at 9am, I've got two spoil-me appointments from 10-12, a production meeting at 1:00, auditions at 2:30, and a shift at the Penrose ED from 5pm-midnight. Sunday I'm back at Penrose at 8:00am-4:00pm, then I'm headed straight to the finish of the Kimchi hash! Lots of stuff, but all stuff I love. Good, but tiring, weekend ahead!TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-87238665750014847672009-08-27T06:27:00.002-07:002009-08-27T06:28:20.234-07:00Save the whalesThat has a whole new meaning to me now. I made a promise to myself that I would get back out and run a lot more than I have in the past few months. So fate is going to make me live up to my promise. I got to Jack Quinn and won a pair of Saucony shoes from Boulder Running Company. Guess I have to keep that promise now! :)TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-77166121117296000512009-08-17T20:12:00.002-07:002009-08-17T20:13:22.024-07:00Sadie is amazing.

Was watching her videos to find a specific move we were working on in the belly dance burn class. Everywhere was hot. Atlanta, Paris, AND Göteborg. I’m icky.

Arrived early into Atl from COS. 2 hr wait for 8hr flight to Paris. Could not sleep. Why did I forget my ambien and pack my meds in my suitcase? Apparently poor planning. A 2 hr delay in Atl = landing in Paris right when connecting flight left = 6 hr additional delay in Paris. The airport is lame. Ate good quiche and napped on the floor of concourse 2G. Finally got to my gramma’s house at 11pm local time (that’s 3pm in COS). Total travel time = way too long (28 hrs). Holy crap.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpRz69g0xdA7X0-46EO6nlhKKswdjQ-6LovvYbvS0lKUt5amSI7tUxSDus1uAbr0xiP9v8jl-GPbw_60LOov_yhm2SQxkM8GSL7MGWsTAaCc0o5xQGZL39ACyibQquQ2hmKD1DZXipsEU/s400/mormor+front+door.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358327249153633122" />

Everything is so familiar. It feels so much like coming home. I love it here. It’s so green compared to CO. I spent so much time running around this neighborhood as a child. I’ve missed it. Got our bikes ready! Will head to the beach tomorrow. I’m in bed now, finally, with the smell of honeysuckle coming in the open window.

Also, it’s still daylight outside and hot. I wasn’t expecting that!

30 Jun 09

Today was an abject lesson in the frustrations of not being able to communicate well. I REEEEALLY need to relearn to speak Swedish. It’s vital to proper correspondence and connection with my family. And how will I ever find the good pubs if I can't ask the locals?

After breakfast this morning, mom and I biked down to Fiskebäck, the “beach.”
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi4DRAQ3z6lWdn__2V-cjSqS2Vzbv_KHGdrvnq8CSqRCKjeDbW-IqSkJBb1APiy3Mhxfwpzi-i0GsD5Vx9jUq3m4O4opMlWGPL-39TJMJDJA5u3oE9E_Rf_WeDhQOveX-IaJ_losWOxGk/s400/Fiskebeck+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358327243073685506" />
I love the Swedish version of beaches: smooth rock with only a small strip of sand. I had forgotten how brown Swedes can be. With the stereotype of Swedish winters being so cold with such short daylight hours, it’s easy to forget that this is not how it is year round. Daylight hours are LONG right now. The sun comes up super early and stays up quite late. It’s after 10pm now and it is still light outside. Locals are at the beaches and parks soaking up the sunshine. We stayed at the beach for a little while, but I wasn’t very patient with sitting still. So instead mom and I biked down to Långedrags, a pier. Mom had some more coffee, and then we biked home for lunch.

After lunch, we headed back out on the bikes down toward town centre along the water.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj98s8XiBbbaJxPjG63QOpezFZOC5QSO2MeABPajMCsU33iw5WcEz3u609TigT85tvp1IElecmeiX9gOKYRYpnT-tw-KObBwgQdbuWilim4IcD4BQ7z-7joyrQDjNHACfMlphWjJide5I4/s400/biking+shore+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358327259287120690" />
We met my mom’s sister and her daughter for ice cream… well, they had ice cream while I sampled the local beer. When our various “treats” were gone, Stina and Lisa-Maria went back toward home and mom and I continued into town. We biked all the way to the town’s center and back home.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOEEx2F1RpIRrjNcUJvyJjv1nYnBipj9fUELTHCGU5ILay0FwTzdcqdLuxU0EWPDss0RUkS1sI6xhc_bVcnYCuOiSNHk8MHhYi2BM0nk3wtsv4tFMsAmCxPoMRAsDTGdM6l82qmignHKk/s400/Biking+Susan+with+swirl+ship.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358327245604563698" />
Lots of miles on single speed bikes with foot brakes, going up and down hills. I feel so icky. Plus, my pace is basically a crawl. Whee. I'm just hoping it'll help loosen up my poor sore muscles. Ran yesterday, too, plus CrossFit. Our workout was: as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of 5 thrusters, 7 hang power cleans, and 10 sumo dead-lift high pulls. I managed 7 complete rounds, plus 5 thrusters and 5 cleans. My back and shoulders are so knotted that I can barely move! It's gonna make dancing at the Caspian tonight interesting.

Hope everyone has a blast at the Sand Dunes this weekend. Wish I could go, but I'm flying to Sweden. I'm super excited about that! Hopefully I'll get to hash and crossfit in Gotheburg and Stockholm! Woohoo!TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-81010490608288150692009-06-16T11:04:00.002-07:002009-06-16T11:06:40.367-07:00Hmmm..My blog is exceedingly lame right now. There's a good reason for it. I have nothing interesting to talk about. All I do is study for my MCAT. I've taken 5 practice exams, 4 of them since last Thursday. Tomorrow I will review my tushy off. Thursday is the exam. Whee. I'm treating it sorta like a practice. I will probably end up having to retake it in August, but hopefully not. :)TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-79208360004485934552009-06-07T09:37:00.002-07:002009-06-07T09:39:32.877-07:00CO weatherI really hate being stuck indoors during the best weather we've had all summer. I could use a day in the sunshine. Unfortunately, I can't afford the time. It's only another week and a half to get through, then I can go back out to play. So get back to work! :) Maybe I'll sneak out for a little run.TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-9300211480842297342009-06-06T13:28:00.001-07:002009-06-06T16:39:03.336-07:00MCAT Studying stillIt takes so much of my time. I love how strong and fast I'm getting with pull-ups. Our workout today was 5 rounds of 21 pull-ups and 15 dumbbell split cleans (30#). I was cruising. In the first round I managed to get 9 pull-ups without stopping. That's the most I've ever done consecutively. I really was moving quickly through the workout. My first round of cleans were a bit awkward, because I wasn't used to having the dumbbells instead of barbells, but once I had that down I really did move fairly quickly. Half way through my round four pull-ups, I tore the big hole in my left hand as well as the two center ones on my right hand. I had to stop and tape my left hand because I was bleeding so much I kept slipping off the bar. I finished round four pull-ups, looked down and there were three more holes. At that point I decided to save what was left of my palms. I finished the dumbbell cleans and called it a day. It's amazing how many nerve endings you have in exposed layers of flesh on your palms. Wow. What pisses me off most is that I didn't get to finish the workout and I had a really fast time going, plus it'll be at least a week before I get to do another pull-up. :(

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZCYorxAiqIKmdCQy2FXq6B6VVbyy8cZJACeCqPBZvOgPGKkEvCGmTbQsAVQAclHb0PsH6WPmjiDNrzfRbQ2oUROGB-jLSZQ5_gqpAUCWAJ3geC7MzlhGNWRMaGe_027vVGCWZbX4DKfQ/s400/Photo+288.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342539290342754530" />TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-43387539245292801432009-05-31T21:40:00.002-07:002009-05-31T21:42:17.286-07:00Auditions...?Thinking about auditioning for some crazy shows that are going to run this summer & fall. One of them requires me to have 16 bars of a song prepared to sing at the audition this weekend. I just learned this now. I have no idea how to prepare a 16 bar audition piece when I don't even own a piano/keyboard right now. A little freaked out by this. We'll see what happens!TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2147099215646830934.post-13488240398513263122009-05-31T18:34:00.001-07:002009-05-31T18:35:48.682-07:00Really lovely SundayActually... today worked out amazingly well. We had a great workout. Then headed over to the pool. For some reason, the rain & lightning didn't come anywhere near us until after 4pm. So we had several hours of sunshine and playing outside. Good times. Great food. Even better people. Love it.TitsOnTheRitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10160083813642167859noreply@blogger.com0
